Your Skin, Your Ritual
Discover your skin type. Understand what it needs. Create a ritual that feels like you.
Your skin is unique — and understanding it doesn't have to be complicated.
This simple self-guided quiz has been created by Generate Kind Co. to help you understand your skin type and discover which botanical skincare products and rituals may best suit your skin.
There are five primary skin types:
A — Normal
B — Dry
C — Oily
D — Combination
E — Blemish-Prone
You'll also discover two additional skin priorities at the end:
Sensitivity & reactivity
Mature & ageing skin
Because your skin doesn't always fit neatly into one box. You might have combination skin that is dehydrated, oily skin that is sensitive, or mature skin that still experiences congestion.
How to use this guide
For each question, choose the answer that sounds most like your skin most of the time.
Keep track of your answers — A, B, C, D or E.
At the end, count your answers from Questions 1–8.
Mostly A = Normal
Mostly B = Dry
Mostly C = Oily
Mostly D = Combination
Mostly E = Blemish-Prone
Then complete Questions 9 and 10 to discover any additional skin priorities.
Your skin can change with seasons, hormones, stress, environment and age, so think about how your skin behaves currently.
Let's discover your skin
1. How does your skin usually feel a few hours after cleansing?
A — Comfortable and balanced
My skin feels comfortable and neither particularly oily nor dry.
B — Tight or thirsty
My skin can feel tight, dry, rough or uncomfortable.
C — Shiny or oily
My skin becomes noticeably shiny or greasy across much of my face.
D — A little bit of everything
My forehead, nose and chin become oily, while my cheeks feel normal or dry.
E — Oily or congested
My skin can feel oily or congested and I regularly notice blemishes, blackheads or clogged pores.
What does this tell you?
How your skin feels after cleansing can give you a useful indication of its natural oil and moisture balance. If your skin consistently feels tight, it may be leaning dry; if it quickly becomes shiny, it may be producing more sebum.
Your ritual tip: Don't cleanse more aggressively just because your skin is oily. Gentle cleansing and maintaining the skin barrier are important for every skin type.
2. By the middle of the day, what does your skin usually look like?
A — Balanced
My skin still looks relatively even and comfortable.
B — Dull or dry
My skin can look dull, feel dry or show flaky areas.
C — Shiny
My face is noticeably shiny, particularly across my forehead, nose and cheeks.
D — Shiny in some places, comfortable in others
My T-zone is shiny but my cheeks remain normal or dry.
E — Shiny and congested
I notice shine alongside clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads or blemishes.
What does this tell you?
Oil production isn't necessarily a bad thing — sebum helps support the skin barrier. The goal is balance rather than stripping your skin of its natural oils.
3. How does your skin feel throughout the day?
A — Comfortable
It generally feels soft, balanced and comfortable.
B — Dry or tight
It often feels like it needs more moisture or nourishment.
C — Oily
It feels increasingly oily as the day goes on.
D — Different in different areas
Some areas feel oily while others feel dry or comfortable.
E — Unpredictable
It can become oily, congested or develop blemishes depending on the day.
A little reminder about hydration
Oiliness and dehydration are not the same thing.
Even oily or blemish-prone skin can be dehydrated. That's why hydration is an important part of every Generate Kind Co. ritual.
Our Face Elixir is formulated for all skin types and combines high- and low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid with Panthenol, Aloe Vera and other hydrating ingredients to support moisture and a supple, resilient complexion.
4. How noticeable are your pores?
A — Not particularly noticeable
My pores are relatively small and don't tend to bother me.
B — Small or barely visible
My pores aren't particularly noticeable, and my skin can sometimes look dry.
C — Noticeable across my face
My pores are more visible, especially through my T-zone and cheeks.
D — Mostly around my T-zone
My pores are more noticeable around my nose, forehead and chin.
E — Noticeable with congestion
I often notice enlarged-looking pores alongside blackheads or congestion.
Your ritual tip
Pores are a normal part of healthy skin. Skincare can help improve the appearance of texture and congestion, but pores don't need to be "eliminated".
For oily, combination and blemish-prone skin, our Calm & Restore Face Cream contains Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), which supports the skin barrier and helps balance the appearance of oiliness and pores.
5. How often do you experience breakouts?
A — Rarely
Occasional blemishes happen, but they're not a regular concern.
B — Almost never
Breakouts are very uncommon for me.
C — Occasionally
I sometimes get blemishes, particularly when my skin feels oily.
D — Occasionally in certain areas
I mainly notice breakouts around my T-zone or chin.
E — Regularly
I frequently experience pimples, blackheads, whiteheads or congestion.
If you chose E...
You may have blemish-prone skin.
That doesn't mean your skin needs to be dried out or stripped. A gentle, balanced ritual can help support healthy-looking skin while avoiding unnecessary irritation.
Our Calm & Restore range was specifically formulated for oily, combination and blemish-prone skin, with ingredients including Hemp, Turmeric, Aloe Vera, Niacinamide, Panthenol and Allantoin.
6. What happens when you use richer skincare?
A — It feels comfortable
My skin generally enjoys richer creams and oils.
B — It feels wonderful
Rich, nourishing products leave my skin feeling soft and comfortable.
C — It can feel heavy
Rich creams or oils can leave my skin feeling greasy or congested.
D — It depends where I use it
My cheeks may love richer products, while my T-zone prefers something lighter.
E — I need to choose carefully
Some richer products seem to contribute to congestion or breakouts.
Your ritual tip
You don't necessarily need the same amount of product everywhere.
Combination skin can benefit from targeted layering — applying richer nourishment where your skin needs it most and keeping things lighter through oilier areas.
7. How does your skin behave during winter or colder weather?
A — It stays fairly balanced
I don't notice a dramatic change.
B — It becomes much drier
My skin feels tighter, rougher or more flaky.
C — It remains oily
My skin continues to produce plenty of oil.
D — My dry areas become drier
My cheeks need more nourishment while my T-zone remains relatively oily.
E — My skin becomes more unpredictable
I may experience more congestion, blemishes or irritation.
Your ritual tip
Seasonal changes can alter how your skin feels. You don't necessarily need to change your entire skincare routine — sometimes adding an extra hydration or nourishment step is enough.
Try adding our Gel Mask – NZ Red Seaweed & Mamaku + Hyaluronic Acid when your skin needs a hydration boost. It sits within our Face Masks collection alongside our clay masks and botanical face steam.

I want to maintain healthy-looking, comfortable skin.
B — Nourishment & moisture
I want my skin to feel softer, more comfortable and deeply nourished.
C — Balance & lightweight hydration
I want hydration without feeling like I'm adding too much richness.
D — Balance across different areas
I want to hydrate my dry areas without making my oily areas feel heavier.

D — It varies by area or product
Some parts of my face are more reactive than others.
E — It can sting, flush, itch or become red
My skin seems particularly reactive to certain products, weather or environmental changes.
If you chose E...
You may have sensitive or reactive skin as an additional skin priority.
Sensitivity isn't necessarily a separate skin type. You can have dry + sensitive, oily + sensitive, combination + sensitive or mature + sensitive skin.
Keep your ritual simple, introduce new products gradually and patch test when appropriate.
Question 10
Which changes are you most interested in supporting?
A — Maintaining healthy-looking skin
I'm mainly focused on keeping my skin balanced and glowing.

E — I'm not currently concerned about ageing
It's not a major skincare priority for me right now.
If you chose A–D...
You may have mature & ageing skin priorities alongside your primary skin type.
Ageing isn't a skin type — you can have mature dry skin, mature oily skin, mature combination skin and so on.
Your Mature & Ageing Ritual

Meet your skin-loving actives
One of the beautiful things about your Generate Kind Co. formulas is that your ritual isn't simply about choosing a skin type. It's also about choosing ingredients that support what your skin needs.
Hyaluronic Acid
For hydration & plump-looking skin
Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that attracts and helps retain water in the skin.
It's particularly useful when your skin feels dehydrated, tight, dull or lacking suppleness — and hydration can benefit every skin type.
Your Face Elixir contains both high- and low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid, while your Nourish & Glow Toner also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate.
Niacinamide — Vitamin B3
For balance, barrier support & even-looking skin
Niacinamide is a well-studied form of Vitamin B3 that supports the skin barrier and can help improve the appearance of uneven tone, texture and pores.
It's particularly useful for oily, combination and blemish-prone skin, while also providing benefits for dry and mature skin.
You'll find Niacinamide in your Face Elixir, Calm & Restore Face Cream and Hemp & Pomegranate Cream Cleanser.
Vitamin C
For brightness & antioxidant support
Vitamin C is valued for its antioxidant properties and its role in supporting a brighter, more even-looking complexion.
Your Face Elixir uses Kakadu Plum, a botanical naturally rich in Vitamin C, alongside other antioxidant-rich ingredients. Your Eye Cream also contains Kakadu Plum.
Bakuchiol
For smoothness, elasticity & the appearance of fine lines
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient known for its skin-smoothing and age-supportive properties.
Your Face Elixir combines Bakuchiol with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Vitamin C, while your Nourish & Glow Face Oil pairs Bakuchiol with Rosehip and Sea Buckthorn and other nourishing botanical oils.
It's a beautiful ingredient to look for when your priorities include texture, radiance, elasticity and visible signs of ageing.
Not sure where to start?
You don't need a ten-step routine.
Start with the essentials:
CLEANSE
Choose a gentle cleanser suited to how your skin feels.
HYDRATE
Add your Face Elixir when your skin needs an extra drink of hydration.
MOISTURISE
Choose Nourish & Glow for normal, dry and mature/ageing skin, or Calm & Restore for oily, combination and blemish-prone skin.
NOURISH
Add a face oil when your skin needs extra nourishment and comfort.
TREAT
Use your Gel Mask for a hydration boost or your Clay Masks when your skin needs a balancing ritual.
CARE FOR YOUR EYES
Add the Ginseng & Green Coffee Eye Cream when hydration, brightness, puffiness or visible signs of ageing around the eyes become a priority.
Your skin isn't a category. It's a ritual.
Your skin can change.
What works beautifully in winter may feel different in summer. Hormones, stress, environment, age and lifestyle can all influence how your skin behaves.
So use this guide as a starting point — not a rulebook.
Listen to your skin.
Keep your ritual consistent.
Adjust when your skin asks for something different.
And most importantly, be kind to the skin you're in.
Kind to you. Kind to the planet.
